Defenders are the underrepresented champions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Though other roles come with a multitude of classes to choose from, defenders only have three. That being said, the three classes offered to provide major benefits for your group. Below, we've ranked them all so you can choose the best character and class for you.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Defender Class Tier List
S Tier
- Lost Vanguard: If you have to choose one defender class, make it the Lost Vanguard. This class not only absorbs damage and gives defensive boosts to teammates but also comes with some surprising attacks that you can use against enemies, which is a total win-win. To get the Lost Vanguard, you need to complete the Vandham's Heir quest that's found in chapter five. Doing this will unlock Monica. Even though Monica is the one who comes with the Lost Vanguard class, we'd recommend playing with Lanz.

A Tier
- Heavy Guard: Heavy Guard is pretty great, especially if you love to taunt your enemies. This class defends by attracting enemy attention away from your primary attackers and then defends the rest of your group behind what is essentially a giant shield.
- Guardian Commander: Noah is best suited for the Guardian Commander class. The approach for guardian commanders is pretty straightforward as they defend with a sword and shield. All of their abilities are enhanced with adversity, which gives them an edge in combat.
