How to implement HRTF in Valorant

Hear footsteps in 3D space!

Audio plays an essential role in almost every competitive game out there, and it is no different for Valorant. The core audio system of Valorant is already excellent and has a great rapport amongst its peer titles. To further improve the audio system in Valorant, Riot Games has introduced a feature called the HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function).

HRTF is a popular feature available in several famous games like CS: GO, Battlefield V, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It allows users to hear better audio queues and sounds, elevating their gameplay to the next level. To implement HRTF in Valorant, you need to turn on the HRTF option under the audio settings section.

Benefits of HRTF

Enabling HRTF allows you to hear all sounds in a three-dimensional space through your headphones with you at the center point. The new awareness helps you identify and track moving enemies using positional audio. For example, without enabling HRTF, you could only predict the footsteps coming from your blindside. With HRTF, however, you can accurately pinpoint whether the sound is to the right or left side of your blindside. Also, the footsteps of players are loud when they are near you and vice-versa.

Remember, HRTF only works if you are wearing a headset. So, don't expect the function to work effectively if you are relying on your speakers.
