You can only hack during combat and only with the White Hat Hacker. Once in the menu, navigate to the Hack option and press S, A, or X input on your respective controller.

You start with three different methods of hacking. These are:
- Debug
- Scans battlefield for abnormal data to correct. Target self to restore lost code integrity.
- INPUT_LAG
- Cause a target to suffer input lag, preventing them from performing repeated combo hits.
- CHNG_USER_ELE
- Choose a new element for the duration of the battle.
Hacking is a powerful tool that can turn the tide of battle. Using hack will take your turn. Debug is essential to counteract your enemy hacking you or your allies as well as restoring code integrity. INPUT_LAG will cause characters, such as brawlers, to miss the timing on their combos. CHNG_USER_ELE changes your character's element which allows you to change your resistance to your enemy's attacks when needed.
You have to be careful when hacking. If you apply too many hacks you can damage the code's integrity. If the code reaches zero percent integrity, the game will cause an emergency clean-up on the code. This may cause the White Hat Hacker to gain a negative effect. As you progress in the game you will learn new ways to hack Terrain of Magical Expertise.
