Starfield's quests don't just offer players a narrative but also an opportunity to discover hidden rewards and unlockables. Sometimes, you can miss these rewards if you don't choose the appropriate dialogue options. Here's how you can receive the Ambassador Pistol during the Friends Like These mission for the United Colonies faction.
How to unlock the Ambassador Pistol - Friends Like These Quest Starfield
For this quest, you'll be tasked to acquire the Freestar Collective Archival Code from Ambassador Evangeline Radcliff. Instead of persuading the Ambassador to give you the key, tell her that you'll figure out a way. This will add a new objective to the quest: Speak to the Freestar Embassy Staffer.
Go to the staff, Cameron Long, in the room behind you and try to retrieve an access key from him. Simply pick the dialogue options that ask you to lie about giving him a job on behalf of the UC. He'll take you somewhere private where you need to ask him for access to the Ambassador's quarters.
After you get the Utility Access Key from Cameron, go upstairs into the room marked with the objective indicator (see first image). Wait for the guard to leave and open the door using the key while remaining hidden. Climb up the boxes into the utility corridor, walk forward, and drop down the hatch I've shown in the last picture.
You'll then find yourself inside the Ambassador's quarters. Go to the bedroom and activate the listening device hidden inside the planter. Wait for the voice lines to finish and go back to the utility corridor by climbing up the hatch in the bathroom.
Although you can retrace your steps, I think it'd be safer to leave the utility corridor via the vent to your left. This way, you can remain hidden as there are no guards on the top floor. Now, go back and blackmail Ambassador Radcliff by telling her that you know about the plan. Soon, you'll get a dialogue choice where you can ask her for a gift (fourth image). Select this option, and Radcliff will give you the rare Ambassador Pistol for free. Furthermore, if you like to use melee weapons a lot, I suggest you grab yourself the Wakizashi Katana, unlocked via a different side quest.
