Crown Tundra: How to get Galarian Articuno

A guide on how to capture Galarian Articuno, one of the three Legendary birds!

Have you ever wanted a game where you can find and capture all Legendary Pokémon in one title? Well, The Pokémon Company has just done that in their latest expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Crown Tundra. Did you ever expect to see Galarian versions of Legendary Pokémon before? Especially the first-ever Legendaries back in Pokémon Red and Blue, the Legendary birds! You can capture these epic birds on your adventure; however, finding them is very akin to the Legendary dogs back in Pokémon Silver and Gold! So much nostalgia in one place!

Where to find Galarian Articuno

To get Galarian Articuno, players must head to the Dyna Tree Hill located at the Crown Tundra's southern point. Here you'll discover all three Legendary Birds fighting against one another; however, upon your approach, all three scatter into the wind to various locations throughout the entire region of Galar. Galarian Articuno, lucky for us, stays in the Crown Tundra.

Articuno is the hardest of the trio to find, as you have to roam the Crown Tundra's snowy landscapes and listen out for the distance cries of this Legendary Pokémon. Try hunting in these three locations first:

  • Old Cemetery next to Giant’s Bed
  • Crosspoint of Giant’s Bed and Frostpoint field (north of Giant’s Bed fast travel location)
  • Cliff on Snowslide Slope

You should find Articuno floating in the air, waiting for you.

Although it's not as easy as that, as when you get closer, this sneaky bird divides itself into three copies, and you have to find out which is the real one. If you're wrong in your choice, Galarian Articuno flies off again, and you have to repeat the process of listening out for its cries and choosing the real version. If you choose correctly, a battle will then ensue, with you being able to capture this Legendary bird Pokémon.

As this Pokémon is the Galarian form, don't go expecting it to be Ice-Flying-type. It's actually a Psychic-Flying type, so plan in advance and bring with you a strong team to counter it. Once Galarian Articuno has been caught, now it's time to capture the other two members of the trio, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres!
