Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet are the start of the ninth Generation of mainline Pokémon games. Fans new and old often contemplate what version of the latest Pokémon entry to purchase once it drops in late 2022. Before buying your copy, make sure you know what makes these two versions distinct.

While Nintendo hasn't confirmed every difference between Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, we can assume the series staples for different versions in the franchise will apply here. Once we know more from Nintendo, we'll update this article accordingly.

Traditional version differences in previous Pokémon titles

  • Version exclusive Pokémon
  • Unique Legendary Pokémon
  • Exclusive Gym Leaders

While certain Pokémon only spawn in one version of the game, players can obtain every creature in one release. As in previous franchise entries, players will need to trade with others to complete the Pokédex and get all Pokémon in one version of the game. Trading applies to regular Pokémon and Legendary Pokémon, and you'll probably have to recruit a friend to help you 100% this entry in the franchise and catch them all.
