Can Riolu Breed in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

You can never have enough Riolus.

Lucario is one of the most popular Pokémon and a strong one at that. This remains true in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and you may find yourself wanting to add one to your team. Lucario evolves from Riolu, and you can breed multiple to get more. This may leave you wondering if you can breed Riolu in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to get Riolu in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The answer is no. Riolu cannot breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. If you want to get another Riolu, you will first have to evolve Riolu into Lucario and then breed it. You can breed a female Lucario with another Pokémon in the same egg group or use a Ditto to breed a male or female Lucario.

Alternatively, you can encounter one in the wild if you do not have a Lucario or a Riolu. Riolu can be found in multiple locations, but we found ours in South Province Area Four. Head to one of these areas to find a Riolu. Be prepared, though, as Riolu is a somewhat rare spawn.

Riolu cannot breed because it is considered a baby Pokémon. These have the Undiscovered egg group and therefore are incompatible with breeding. All baby Pokémon must evolve at least once before they can breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
