Best Nature for Toedscool and Toedscruel in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The land jellyfish Pokémon.

Pokémon rarely introduces new jellyfishes into the game, but when they do, they always look like Tentacool and Tentacruel’s distant cousin. But there’s a species in Scarlet and Violet that looks exactly like them: Toedscool and Toedscruel. But unlike the aggressive species from Kanto, these two are more inclined to stay away from strangers. The right Nature can help support their defensive habits.

What is the best Nature for Toedscool and Toedscruel in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

The best Nature for Toedscool and Toedscruel in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the following:

  • Gentle (+Sp. Def, -Def)
  • Calm (+Sp. Def, -Attack)
  • Careful (+Sp. Def, -Sp. Atk)

Toedscool and Toedscruel both have a high Sp. Def stat. When pitted against Sp. Atk nukes like Gardevoir and Roserade, Toedscool and Toedscruel will survive a ton of hits. Gentle is the best Nature for it, but you can also opt for Calm and Careful. Just be sure to avoid teaching them one type of attack (Physical or Special) depending on the negatively affected stat.

How to choose the best Nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Choosing the best Nature isn’t always as straightforward as Toedscool and Toedscruel’s cases. In some cases, trainers should think about the Nature that can complement their highest stat, instead of just ensuring that the boosted stat is their highest one.

For example, Quaxly is better off with a boosted Speed rather than Attack despite the latter being its highest. This is so Quaxly and its succeeding evolutions can get the first hit every turn. With “tank” Pokémon like Toedscool and Toedscruel, however, it’s more than okay to build up their defenses.
