Paradox Pokémon are either future or past versions of many Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet’s Pokédex. You can capture them in Area Zero later in the game. But since there are plenty of things that are shiny locked in the game, from starters to NPC-traded Pokémon, you might be wondering if Paradox Pokémon are shiny locked too.
Can I shiny hunt Paradox Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet?
Since Paradox Pokémon can naturally be encountered in the “wild,” they’re not shiny locked. There will always be a 1/4096 chance of seeing a shiny Paradox Pokémon. You can even eat sandwiches outside Area Zero and keep the shiny encounter boosting effects when you enter.
The hunt will be harder since there aren’t any mass outbreaks for them. Thus, we recommend you wait until you have the Shiny Charm before you attempt to shiny hunt Paradox Pokémon.

What Pokémon are shiny locked in in Scarlet & Violet?
Of course, just because Paradox Pokémon aren’t shiny locked, doesn’t mean that all Pokémon aren't. Below is a list of shiny locked Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet:
- Starter Pokémon given at the beginning of the game (but Fuecoco, Quaxlyl and Sprigatitio can be shiny hunted later on)
- NPC-traded Pokémon
- Titan Pokémon
- The Four Treasures of Ruin (Ting Lu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, and Chi-Yu)
- The boxart legendaries (Koraidon and Miraidon)
Some of these shiny locked Pokémon are given during events, either as prizes or Mystery Gift. To claim them, open your menu and go to Poké Portal.
