Best Moves for Mantine in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

For a super-effective "kite" Pokémon

Mantine's best moves are Aerial Ace, Air Slash, Hydro Pump, and Double Edge. We picked these moves based on Mantine's base stats and the STAB (same type attack bonus). This bonus yields a 50 percent increase in damage output if the chosen move shares the Pokémon's typing.

Mantine's Most Powerful Moves

Since Mantine is both a water and flying-type Pokémon, its best moves are ideally of similar types. Aerial Ace is a flying-type move learned at level 9 (mastered at 18) with an attack power of 90. Air Slash is also a flying-type move learned at level 21 (mastered at 31) with an attack power of 112.5—massively strong due to the STAB. Mantine's last learned move is a normal-type physical one learned at level 47 (mastered at 59), Double Edge, with an impressive overall attack power of 120.

Hydro Pump is Mantine's most powerful attack, maxing out at 165 while being a special move. Mantine's highest offensive stat is its Special Attack. This natural boost in addition to the same type attack bonus makes Hydro Pump formidable. The rest of its stats, especially attack, come in either average or a bit below.

Mantine's Base Stats

  • Stat Total: 485
    • HP: 85
    • Attack: 40
    • Defense: 70
    • Special Attack: 80
    • Special Defense: 140
    • Speed: 70

This means special attacks rather than physical attacks will always be Mantine's forte in Pokémon Legends: ArceusMany other powerful moves such as Hyper Beam or Aqua Tail can be learned for a price from Zisu at the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village, but they are either physical attacks or they do not take advantage of the STAB. This Pokémon's best moves are learned naturally as it levels up.

Purchased moves such as the ice-type Ice Beam or normal-type Giga Impact, can be considered alternate options to Double-Edge. However, they either don't perform as accurately or they offer worse general coverage. Mantine's special defense strength can be considered its greatest use as a relatively average Pokémon—the better to withstand damage with in order to weaken other monsters in battle for capture.

Mantine is the second and final evolutionary form of Mantyke, both of which can be found in Tranquility Cove in the Cobalt Crosslands. You've probably already encountered the Alpha Matnine that can be found there. Mantyke evolves into Mantine as long as Remoraid is also present in your party. Be sure to also take advantage of its best nature, which adds a further 10 percent special defense increase.
