One of the key selling points of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax being released on PC is the prospect of netplay. But there’s been huge issues inviting friends to play the game for some players. Seemingly it should be simple to invite a friend to play the game through Steam, but players have reported issues with receiving invites or joining lobbies using the Steam overlay.
To solve the issue of inviting friends, you’ll instead have to use the Create Room function. To do this, head to Network and select Player Match. Choose a name that the friend you want to invite will recognize, set the Capacity to the number of friends you want to invite, and set the number of Private Slots to zero. Then select Create Room at the top.

Next, have your friend search for the room. To do this, select Search Rooms on the Player Match option. Make sure to change the Capacity in the search to the same as the room you’ve created. This is important, as sometimes the game will crash if you don’t apply any search parameters. You should be able to join the game through this.
Another method is to copy the link of the Join Game portion of the Steam overlay. To do this, press Shift + Tab and click your profile picture. Right-click your own green Join Game icon and select Copy Link Address. Then paste this link to your friend and have them follow it to join your game.
Ultimately these methods are workarounds for issues that will hopefully be solved in the near future. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is an incredible game when played online but just needs a little help to make connecting a bit smoother.
