It isn't uncommon for a new game like Payday 3 to come out and not work properly. The game unfortunately launched with many issues and is in a questionable state on the PS5. There have been reports of the game simply not launching on the console, which is frustrating to players attempting to load in for the first time. Thankfully, there are a few things you can try on your end to solve the issue beyond simply waiting for a fix from the developers.
How to fix Payday 3 not working on PS5
If you purchased Payday 3 on your PS5 and it simply won't start, here are a few maintenance tips that can make all the difference:
- Check for Game Updates - Navigate over to the PlayStation Store and see if there are any updates available for download. If a patch is released, an update could be all you need to get the game running.
- Reset your Console - Even the most simplistic of potential solutions can solve the most complex, incomprehensive problems. Such is the nature of all hardware, the PS5 not excluded.

- Update your PS5 - Sony often releases system updates and patches designed to fix problems and close holes in PS5's operating system. Nasty compatibility issues can arise especially if new products, Payday 3, are trying to run on outdated software.
- Wait for Sony - Sony ultimately is the controlling force behind the PS5's updates, so if the game isn't running, it is likely a Sony PS5 issue and not something on your end, especially if your other games work just fine.
If these solutions did not work for you, you can also try reinstalling Payday 3 on your PS5 as a last resort. There's a chance this may work, but I don't suspect it will considering the widespread nature of the issue. If this last-ditch effort also fails, then you'll need to wait for an update from Sony and Starbreeze themselves.
