It's important to know exactly how to open a safe when you come across one, as they are imperative to completing many of the game's objectives. Fortunately, you're reading text from the best in the business, so I'll get you straightened out on the nuances of safe cracking. Here's how to open safes in Payday 3 like a pro.
How to open safes in Payday 3
If you do the tutorial, you're given a single safe to crack open. It may take you a few tries, but you'll eventually get it through trial and error. This is no problem because the tutorial doesn't have any stakes. However, in the midst of a real job, time is of the essence, so knowing how to break them open quickly is very useful.
When you attempt to open a safe, you're treated to a multi-stage minigame where you must turn the nob until it turns green. Simple, but there are so many nuances you can do to make it process easier. As you turn the nob, it begins to shake violently. The more violently the nob shakes, the closer to green you are. As such, you'll want to slow down on your turning so as to not miss the green reward. Overturning means you end up with a red nob, which is an instant failure and a total reset of the process. You must succeed in at least three rounds of the minigame to crack open a safe.
You can actually determine the correct direction to turn the knob by looking at the two arrows on the left and right sides of the nob. A clear arrow means it's the wrong way to turn the nob. A semi-filled arrow means it's the right way to turn a nob. This tip should significantly cut down on the number of failures you experience when trying to open safes.
