What is MIT in Overwatch 2? Damage Mitigated, explained

There's more than one way to block damage.

Overwatch 2 changes a few things when it comes to overall mechanics. The biggest change, alongside the introduction of 5v5 matchmaking, is the inclusion of a detailed scoreboard. The scoreboard that is visible both during the game and after provides details on how each player did in multiple categories. For the most part, these categories are self-explanatory. However, there is one that is known as MIT. Here is what MIT means in Overwatch 2.

What does MIT stand for on the Overwatch 2 scoreboard?

MIT in Overwatch 2 stands for Damage Mitigated. This statistic is similar to a Damage Blocked statistic. However, it also keeps track of damage prevented by effects, such as Ana’s Nano Boost or Orisa’s Fortify. There are even plans to add tracking for damage mitigated by effects, such as Lucio’s Sound Barrier.

This stat is an interesting one for both Support and Tank heroes to keep an eye on. It no longer comes down to evaluating a healer's performance on the sole basis of how much they healed teammates; it encompass how much damage they mitigated. It's also a very important stat for Shield Tanks, who can evaluate the effectiveness of the shields they are using.

The scoreboard can be a great tool that provides helpful statistics to both the player and the team, giving time for changes within the match. The scoreboard can also be seen as a curse, as it will open doors for toxicity via players using those statistics to harass others. That said, the MIT stat is one that has been missing from Overwatch for far too long.
