10 video game super Bowl Ads of all time from Worst to Best

10. World of Tanks - Real Awful Moms Superbowl Ad (2017)

Apparently, having an exciting concept for a Super Bowl ad is unnecessary as long as you have a tank that goes through the walls. World of Tanks tried this fake-reality show formula twice in 2017. If you're curious, watch the "Teensy House Buyers" commercial, where a tank demolishes a tiny house.

9. Heroes Arena - Super Bowl Ad (2018)

You don't need much to make a Super Bowl video game ad. Just make a connection between your game and football. Heroes Arena commercial has six seconds dedicated to the most popular American sport, while everything else is just gameplay. Look up "nothing special" in a dictionary, and you'll find this commercial as an example.

8. Meta Quest 2 - Old Friends New Fun Ad (2022)

Meta is on a quest to burn all their money while trying to prove to everyone that their VR set is cool. It may very well be, but according to this commercial, it's already on its way to being discontinued. Nothing can convince me to buy Meta Quest 2 as a commercial with a "Screen images simulated and not representative of current product. User experience will vary" message.

7. God of War Ragnarok - The Big Game (2023)

Kratos is apparently a huge football fan, as this is his second coming to this video game ads list. This time, we're seeing God of War: Ragnarok's main quest set in the contemporary setting of Super Bowl LVII. The video is slightly underwhelming, as the God of War Super Bowl ad from 2013 is far superior.

6. Game of War - Who I am Super Bowl Commercial (2015)

Sometimes it's very easy to create a Super Bowl gaming commercial if you have a lot of money to burn. You must have a considerable budget to pay celebrities and a production menu fit for a king. This Game of War commercial starts in a Witcher-like bathtub. And just when Kate Upton starts to enjoy herself, she must go to battle and fight giants and other enemies invading her castle.

5. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - Switch and Play Super Bowl Ad (2017)

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilde was one of the main reasons many people bought Nintendo Switch. This ad was released before the console was even available, so you can imagine the hype when this ad was aired for the first time.

4. Clash of Clans - Revenge Super Bowl Ad (2015)

Liam Neeson has found a way to prolong his career by defeating all enemies in movies and video games. As you can imagine, he can defeat any opponent just by being scary in the movie or by playing the mobile game and using some of the best heroes in Clash of Clans.

3. Evony - The Battle of Evony (2017)

We have a winning formula for Super Bowl! Combine famous actors and a huge budget with a mobile free-to-play video game in a historic environment. This ad is also a unique chance to see Aaron Eckhart and Jeffrey Dean Morgan facing each other in quasi-historic movie-like combat!

2. God of War Ascension - From Ashes Commercial (2013)

You can't go wrong with the combination of Kratos and Gladiator-like visuals. Super Bowl game commercials often tend to go over the top with action or humor, but God of War: Ascension goes straight to the heart. Whether you're a fan of God of War, you can't be indifferent to this Super Bowl ad.

1. Xbox Adaptive Controller - We All Win (2019)

Xbox Adaptive Controller is a prime example of how video games unite. We are all gamers whether we use a mouse, keyboard, or controller. That's why it's excellent that console developers (Microsoft and Sony) have recognized the needs of gamers with disabilities.

Video Game Ads Honorable mention - NES Power Glove Commercial

I know, I know... This has nothing to do with Super Bowl, but you can't write about video game commercials and skip this piece of history. Although Power Glove became one of the biggest flops in gaming history, it was a visionary idea that preceded VR controllers.
