Although it's totally optional, players will definitely want to beat the Devourer of Dreams in Octopath Traveler 2. This has less to do with the boss fight and more to do with the loot that it drops: The Forbidden Sword. This weapon is one of the best swords in the entire game, making it easily worth beating this boss for. Here's how to do that.
Best strategies to use against Devourer of Dreams in Octopath Traveler 2
The first step to beating the Devourer of Dreams in Octopath Traveler 2 is bringing an optimal team. The Devourer of Dreams is found in the Forbidden Graveyard, which is in perpetual darkness. This means that both Temenos and Throne will always have their passive abilities active, which is good for blinding the enemy and giving the team some extra stats.
It's also a good idea to bring Ochette along, mostly for the Leghold Trap ability. The Devourer of Dreams can blur the turn order, making it impossible to see which allies are attacking next. With Leghold Trap, though, players can ensure that the boss always moves last.

Secondly, it's important to know the boss' weak points, which are as follows:
- Phase 1: Sword, Axe, Staff, Wind
- Phase 2: Polearm, Bow, Staff, Wind
- Phase 3: Fire, Ice, Wind
Seeing as Staff and some of the elements have a good matchup here. It's a good idea to bring a Scholar as well. The Devourer of Dreams has a ton of shield points, so being able to carve those down in a hurry is a great ability to have. Things like Temenos' Latent Power with Elemental Barrage are good strategies for lowering up to five Shield Points in one move.
Beyond that, it's a good idea to have a couple of characters with some hard-hitting Divine Skills. Examples would be Brand's Blade on Hikari or Aeber's Reckoning on Throne.
