New World Developers are cracking down on AFK

New World's recent launch has seen a massive influx of players, even reaching 700,000 concurrent players the day after its official launch. With this large number of players, queue times to get into New World have been on the long side of extremely long.

As a result, some players rely on strange methods to remain AFK to avoid leaving the server and getting back in the queue. Despite Amazon Games adding more servers, you can frequently see players running into corners of buildings or using the sit emote for hours on end.

Unfortunately for these players, Amazon Games is cracking down on those using AFK to stay on the server. Typically players will be booted from the server for being AFK after 25 minutes, also receiving a warning at the 20-minute mark. By walking into a corner of a building, using a constant emote, or constantly attacking players can trick the system into thinking they are not AFK.

Amazon Games is trying to cut down on this by adding more servers, but as they do so, they are increasing their parameters for detecting AFK. They did not elaborate what methods they would be taking, but stated but we will say that we have every confidence that players who are playing New World normally will not experience any issues."

They also stated being detected for AFK will kick the player from the server, and continued detection would result in more harsh penalties. New World will roll out these changes over time, so players should be careful before going AFK.
