In Minecraft update 1.20, the Tails & Trails update, Armor Trims were added to the game. These new customization options for Armor were a huge change, adding 16 different looks for the armor. Each one of these trims is found in different locations using different methods. Here’s how to find all Armor Trims in Minecraft.
How to get Armor Trims in Minecraft - All Armor Trim Locations
Armor trims are primarily found in chests in some of the most dangerous locations in Minecraft. You’ll be looking for an item called a Smithing Template, such as the Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template. Some of these require following multiple steps, while others need a lot of luck. Here are the locations.
Coast Armor Trim
As the name implies, the Coast Armor Trim can be found in Shipwrecks. Due to the ubiquity of Shipwrecks in most Minecraft worlds, this gives you a great chance to find your first Armor Trim. They’re found in any of the potential three chests that Shipwrecks can generate with.
Dune Armor Trim
Again, the clue is in the name with this one. Desert Temples have a chance to have this Armor Trim, in the Chests you find at the bottom of a Desert Temple. Just watch out for TNT!
Eye Armor Trim
The Eye Armor Trim is one of our favorites, but if you’re playing Minecraft the conventional way, you’ve got a while to go until you find this one. Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template is found in Strongholds, likely in the Library or the Altar chests.
Host Armor Trim
Host Armor Trim is only discoverable using Archeology. You’ll have to use the Brush on Trail Ruin Structures to uncover the Host Armor Trim.
Raiser Armor Trim
Like the Host Armor Trim, the Raiser Armor Trim Smithing Template is found in the Trail Ruins by exploring the ancient structures and brushing off the suspicious gravel using the Brush tool! Another Archeology-based Armor Trim.
Rib Armor Trim
The Rib Armor Trim Smithing Template is found in Nether Fortresses, in some of the rare chests. As one of the more dangerous locations to scout and find, you’ll need to be extra careful while searching for these!
Sentry Armor Trim
The Sentry Armor Trim Smithing Template can be found at Pillager Outposts. Like all the others, it’s a random drop in chests, and because there’s only one chest in Pillager Outposts it can be a difficult one to find!
Silence Armor Trim
The Ancient City is a great source of loot, including the Silence Armor Trim Smithing Template. These are found randomly in chests in the Ancient City, but make sure you’re sneaking so as to not wake the Warden!
Shaper Armor Trim
Like other Archeology-based Armor Trims, the Shaper Armor Trim Smithing Template is found by using the Brush on suspicious sand or gravel to find the item.
Snout Armor Trim
Generating in perhaps the single most dangerous Nether location, Snout Armor Trim Smithing Templates appear in Bastion Remnants. However, they’re also more common in the Hoglin Stable variant of the Bastion Remnant chests.

Spire Armor Trim
Perhaps one of the last Armor Trims you’ll find, the Spire Armor Trim is located in the chests in End Cities. Some claim they’re more likely to generate aboard ships (and near Elytras), but we can’t confirm this.
Tide Armor Trim
The Tide Armor Trim is a rare drop from Elder Guardians. Elder Guardians will only occasionally drop this super rare Tide Armor Trim Smithing Template, so you’ll have to make sure to either create a Guardian Farm, or deal with the pain of killing this super difficult mob!
Vex Armor Trim
Appearing in one of the rarest structures in the entire overworld, Vex Armor Trim is incredibly rare in itself. You’ll need to find a Woodland Mansion, clear it of its incredibly aggressive inhabitants, and then hope to find this trim in one of the chests.
Ward Armor Trim
The Ward Armor is another hard-to-obtain Armor Trim that can only be found in chests in the Ancient City. You’ll have to dodge the Warden and find this Ward Armor Trim Smithing Template in one of the many chests.
Wayfinder Armor Trim
The Wayfinder Armor Trim is a rare Armor Trim that can only be found using Archeology. You’ll need to use a brush to find the Wayfinder Armor Trim in Trail Ruin structures. It’s a rare drop so stay vigilant!
Wild Armor Trim
The Jungle Temple is the place you’ll find this final variety of Armor Trim. However, just like the Woodland Mansion, this is a very rare structure, so you’ll have to be lucky enough to find one first!
