To fix the Minecraft for Windows Incompatible with launcher error, you must go through a few troubleshooting steps. If one troubleshooting step doesn't work, keep trying the ones we have listed on this list until you find one that works. That said, here's what we recommend trying in order to fix the Windows:
- Close launcher with Task Manager and relaunch it
- Run as Administrator
After trying either of the steps above, if your launcher is still not working, you should try reinstalling the game. We also recommend removing any mods, as they often can cause issues with running the Minecraft Launcher. You can remove any mods you may have added by clearing your Minecraft mod folder.
How to close the Minecraft Launcher using Task Manager
You can open the task manager by pressing CRTL+ALT+DELETE. Doing so opens a list of options on your PC. One of these options is called Task Manager, and it should be the last option on the list. Once you open the Task Manager, find the Minecraft Launcher under Processes and right-click it. Right-clicking the manager presents you with a list of options. At the top of the list, one option is called End Task. Click End Task, and it will close the Minecraft Launcher. When the Minecraft Launcher is closed, relaunch the Minecraft Launcher, and it should work as normal.
How to run Minecraft as Administrator
The next fix you want to try to get the Minecraft launcher to work is to run it as Administrator. To run the Minecraft Launcher as Adminstrator, type Minecraft Launcher into the Windows search bar on the bottom left of your screen. Doing so makes the Minecraft Launcher appear in the list of results. Right-click the Minecraft Launcher's icon, and the option to Run as Administrator will appear on a small tab. Click Run as Administrator, and the launcher should run as normal.
