Confused about where to find them? Don't know what team to use to beat the fight? Here's a comprehensive guide on all the Stagnant Shadow Challenges in Honkai: Star Rail.

All Honkai Star Rail Stagnant Shadow Challenges

Here are all the Stagnant Shadow Challenges you can tackle in Honkai: Star Rail. You'll need to use 30 Trailblaze Power to start these fights, in exchange for Character Ascension Materials. They will unlock after completing Equilibrium Challenge Two, about the same time you finish the Jarilo-VI Chapter of the story.

Shape of Quanta

This Stagnant Shadow can be found in Base Zone of Herta Space Station. You can claim Void Cast Iron here. You'll be challenged by a Voidranger: Trampler and some Voidranger: Reavers. Both are weak to Physical attacks. I recommend using Physical, Wind, and Imaginary characters in this fight.

Best team comps

Because all enemies are weak to Physical attacks, I recommend using Physical DPS characters such as the Physical Trailblazer, Sushang, or Clara. Using Natasha as a healer is also recommended, as she can help with weakness breaks when she isn't healing. If you have Welt or Bronya, they will also excel as supports in this fight. Here are two example teams that you could use in this fight:

  • Natasha, Physical Trailblazer, Sushang, Dan Heng
  • March 7th, Clara, Physical Trailblazer, Dan Heng

Shape of Gust

Meanwhile, you'll find this Stagnant Shadow in Rivet Town of Jarilo-VI. You can get Storm Eyes here. You'll encounter three types of enemies: a Stormbringer and some Flamespawns and Frostspawns. There is no weakness type that they all share, but I recommend using Fire, Ice, and Imaginary characters for this fight.

Best team comps

If you want to bring an Imaginary character, you could bring Welt, though it may take you time to pull him. Otherwise, I recommend using Fire and Ice characters just like the game does. Here's a team of four-star characters that you could easily use:

  • March 7th, Asta, Herta, Hook

If you are lucky enough to have Gepard or Himeko on your roster, you could swap them in for March 7th or Hook, respectively.

Shape of Fulmination

Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Fulmination can be found in the Corridor of Fading Echoes of Jarilo-VI. You can claim the Lightening Crown of the Past Shadow here. You'll be fighting a Guardian Shadow and some Everwinter Shadewalkers. Both are weak to Physical and Quantum attacks.

Best team comps

You can bring any mix of Physical and Quantum characters into this fight, but always remember to have a healer or shielder in any team that you build. Natasha is a great choice for this. If you have Seele, a limited five-star character, on your team, she will excel here. Here's a team of nothing but four-star characters that you could easily use:

  • Natasha, Physical Trailblazer, Qingque, Sampo

In this Team Comp, Seele would be swapped in for Qingque. You could also use Sushang instead of the Physical Trailblazer, if you prefer.

Shape of Blaze

This Stagnant Shadow Challenge can be found in the Silvermane Guard Restricted Zone on Jarilo-VI. You can claim Endotherm Chitin here. You'll be fighting a Blaze Out of Space and some Incineration Shadewalkers. Both are weak to the Ice element, with the boss also having Physical and Quantum weaknesses.

Best team comps

It's no surprise that the Ice type will excel here. If you pulled Gepard or Yanqing from the Gacha, you won't have any trouble. Here's another team of four-star characters that you can use:

  • March 7th, Herta, Sushang, Natasha

This team is certain to keep you healthy. If you have Gepard, swap him in for March 7th. Herta or Sushang could be replaced with Yanqing.

Shape of Spike

The Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Spike Challenge can be found in the Great Mine of Jarilo-VI. You can get Broken Teeth of Iron Wolf here. You'll be fighting an Automaton Direwolf and some Automaton Beetles and Hounds. All robotic enemies on Jarilo-VI have Lightening weaknesses, and most have Imaginary weaknesses.

Best team comps

While the Lightening Standard Five-Star Character, Bailu, is a healer, you also have two four-star DPS options you could use: Serval and Arlan. If you happen to draw Welt, from the Gacha he could help you here, too. Here's are four-star characters you can use for this fight:

  • Serval, Arlan, Tingyun, Natasha.

If you have Bailu, swap her in for Natasha. Welt could be used in place of Serval or Arlan if you wanted to.

Shape of Rime

You can find this Stagnant Shadow Challenge in the Corridor of Fading Echoes on Jarilo-VI. Defeating this challenge will reward you with Horn of Snow. You'll be fighting a Frigid Prowler and more Frostspawns. It should come as no surprise that the Fire Element will excel here.

Best team comps

While Himeko may not be best Standard Five-Star Character overall, she can easily hold her own in this fight. You could also use the Fire Trailblazer once you've unlocked them to help taunt damage away from their teammates. Ice characters will not work, so don't use March 7th to support the team. These four-star characters will do well in this fight:

  • Natasha, Asta, Hook, Arlan

Himeko would actually be swapped for Serval, in this case. The Fire Trailblazer would replace either Asta or Natasha.

Shape of Mirage

You can find this Stagnant Shadow Challenge in the Backwater Pass on Jarilo-VI. Defeating this challenge will reward you with Golden Crown of the Past Shadow. You'll be fighting a Decaying Shadow and Imaginary Weavers. Both are weak to the Lightening Element.

Best team comps

The team comp for this challenge will be very similar to the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Spike challenge. Bailu is still your Standard Five-Star substitute if you have her. Here's a team of nothing but four-star characters that you could easily use:

  • Serval, Arlan, Tingyun, Natasha.

Bailu would be swapped for Natasha if you have her.

Shape of Icicle

Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Icicle is found in Cloudford on the Xianzhou Loufu. Defeating this challenge will reward you with Gelid Chitin. You'll be fighting an Ice Out of Space, some Imaginary Weavers, and some Mara-Struck Soldiers. All enemies are weak to the Quantum element, and most are weak to fire.

Best team comps

Enemies in this challenge have some Ice and Wind Resistances, so I recommend you avoid using March 7th to support the team. Himeko or Seele are some of the Five-Star Characters you can sub into our recommended team if you have them. Here's another four-star team that you can use:

  • Natasha, Fire Trailblazer, Asta, Qingque

Himeko and Seele would be swapped in for either the Trailblazer or Qingque in this case.

Shape of Doom

You can find this Stagnant Shadow Challenge in Stargazer Navalia on the Xianzhou Loufu. Defeating this challenge will reward you with Shape Shifter's Lightening Staff. You'll be fighting a Disciple of Sanctus Medicus: Shape Shifter as well as Mara Struck Soldiers and Entranced Ingenium: Obedient Dracolions. There are no weaknesses that all of these elements share. I recommend using Wind and Ice Characters, even though the Mara Struck Soldiers will resist Wind.

Best team comps

Gepard can work very well in this fight supporting your team if you've obtained him from the Gacha. Bronya would be an excellent choice as well. You can use this team of nothing but four-star characters to win the fight:

  • March 7th, Herta, Dan Heng, Sampo

Gepard could replace March 7th in this team, or Bronya could replace Sampo. If you don't have either of these Five-Star characters, the base four-star team will still do just fine.

Shape of Celestial

The Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Celestial is located at the southwest of the Alchemy Commission F2, and drops the character Ascension material called the Ascendant Debris. The enemy lineup includes The Ascended (Physical, Ice, Lightning) and Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Ballistarius (Physical, Ice, Wind).

Best team comps

If you're struggling to complete this Stagnant Shadow, I highly recommend picking a strong DPS from your friend Supports of any Element the main boss is weak against (Physical, Ice, Lightning). Otherwise, you can bring the following team members:

  • Any healer (such as Natasha, Luocha, Bailu)
  • Any shielder (such as March 7th, Fire Trailblazer, Gepard)
  • Any weakness breaker or buffer of your choice (such as Bronya, Tingyun, Pela)
  • Main DPS of any element the boss is weak against (such as Jing Yuan, Serval)

Shape of Puppetry

The Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Puppetry is located west of the Artisanship Commission. You can access it via the Northern Space Anchor. The enemy lineup includes the Aurumaton Gatekeeper (Lightning, Wind, Quantum) and Entranced Ingenium: Illumination Dragonfish (Physical, Lightning, Imaginary), which drop the Ascension material called Suppressing Edict.

Best team comps

If you're struggling to complete this Stagnant Shadow, I recommend picking a strong DPS from your friend Supports, as they will be able to complete the stage themselves, even if your healers, buffers, and shielders aren't very good. You can also try building a team with the following:

  • Any healer (such as Natasha, Luocha, Bailu)
  • Any shielder (such as March 7th, Fire Trailblazer, Gepard)
  • Any weakness breaker or buffer of your choice (such as Bronya, Tingyun, Pela)
  • Main DPS of any element the boss is weak against (such as Kafka, Seele, and Blade)

Shape of Scorch

The Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Scorch is located southeast of the Great Mine, an area that was expanded during the Version 1.4 update. The enemy lineup includes the Searing Prowler (Ice, Lightning, Imaginary), Automaton Hound (Physical, Lightning), and Automaton Beetle (Lightning, Wind, Imaginary), which drop the Ascension material called Searing Steel Blade.

Best team comps

If you're struggling to complete this Stagnant Shadow, I recommend picking a strong DPS from your friend Supports, as they will be able to complete the stage themselves, even if your healers, buffers, and shielders aren't very good. You can also use the following characters on your team:

  • Any healer (such as Luocha, Bailu, Lynx)
  • Any shielder (such as March 7th, Fu Xuan, Fire Trailblazer)
  • Any weakness breaker or buffer of your choice (such as Bronya, Tingyun)
  • Main DPS of any element the boss is weak against (such as Jingliu, Imbibitor Lunae, Kafka)

Shape of Perdition

The Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Perdition is located southwest of the Fyxestroll Garden, which unlocks after completing the Sojourner’s Ghastly Reverie Trailblaze Continuance Mission.

The area was released in the Version 1.5 update, and the Stagnant Shadow's enemy lineup includes the Aurumaton Spectral Envoy (Physical, Lightning, Imaginary), Wraith Warden (Physical, Ice, Wind), and Entranced Ingenium: Obedient Dracolion (Wind, Imaginary). It drops the Ascension material called the Netherworld Token.

Best team comps

If you're struggling to complete this Stagnant Shadow, choose a strong DPS unit aligned with the recommended Elements from your friend Supports. You can also use the general team template below:

  • Any healer (such as Luocha, Huohuo, Bailu)
  • Any shielder (such as Fu Xuan, Fire Trailblazer)
  • Any weakness breaker or buffer of your choice (such as Bronya, Tingyun)
  • Main DPS of any element the boss is weak against (such as Jingliu, Imbibitor Lunae, Kafka)
