How to get rid of your sprout in FFXIV

Drop that sprout!

In Final Fantasy XIV, new players are marked with a small sprout icon next to their name, which denotes them as a "New Adventurer." This sprout can be a mark of pride for some and is a general message to all players to have a little bit of patience with these players.

But for some, the sprout can be humiliating or unnecessary, especially if you've had a lot of experience in other MMOs or this is an alt character. Therefore, you might want to remove your sprout. Here's how to do it.

Losing your Final Fantasy XIV sprout naturally

Your sprout will naturally be removed from your name if you've played the game for more than 300 hours, completed the post-Shadowbringers' quest Death Unto Dawn, and do not have Mentor Status. Once these prerequisites are complete, your sprout will disappear.

As in FFXIV, playtime and quest completion are tracked per character, not account-wide. Being a mentor on one character and a new adventurer on another is possible. You will need to either manually remove sprouts from other characters or complete the above prerequisite to remove them.

Removing your sprout manually

To manually remove your sprout, you can type /nastatus into the chat bar. This will remove your sprout and any status you have. You can also remove your sprout by becoming a Mentor of any kind, with a Battle Mentor, Trade Mentor, or PvP Mentor.

Returns also have a Returner Sprout, which looks like a crown blossoming from a sprout. You can also toggle this with the /nastatus command. You can also disable your sprout by typing /roleplaying, changing your status to the RP icon, indicating you're looking for a roleplaying experience instead. This is often useful for secondary characters.

Benefits of sprouts

Sprouts have access to the Novice Network, which will allow you to chat within a special chat for new adventurers. This allows you to chat with Mentors and gain experience and insight into the game. It's also a great way to meet fellow newbies and team up for harder fights.
