In a rousing start to the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2023 in Las Vegas, the game’s director and lead producer, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi P), revealed the next expansion for the game, Dawntrail. FFXIV: Dawntrail will take us to the New World of Eorzea, exploring new places we’d heard of but never ventured to. And we have all the details we know right here:
Everything we know about FFXIV Dawntrail
Here’s every detail we gleaned about Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail from the trailer and the keynote address:
When does FFXIV: Dawntrial release?
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrial is set to release in Summer 2024, although no solid date is known. This was the timeframe given by Yoshi P in the keynote address and was due to delays caused by the Pandemic. Originally, the game was expected in January 2024, but we’ll have to wait a few more months and now expect an early summer release.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail New Jobs
Yoshi P confirmed there will be two new jobs for Dawntrail but hasn’t given us details. However, given the setting and some of the trailer details, there’s some speculation. We see the Warrior of Light wearing a decidedly pirate-y outfit in the trailer, which brings to mind the Corsair, which had been a class in the previous Final Fantasy MMO, FFXI.
Similarly, we see the WoL fighting with a single sword, and while he could just be using the old invisible shield Glamour for Paladin, we’re tempted to think it’s related to the new class. So Fencer? FFXI had a Rune Fencer class…
FFXIV Dawntrail 7.0 story details
In a seeming departure from all the exploring the void and battling demons and devils we’ve been doing in the post-game content, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawnrail is sending us on what Yoshi P describes as the “best summer vacation a hero could possibly have.” Traveling to the New World, we’ll explore some of the parts of the planet we’ve never visited.
Primarily Tural, a continent that’s part of The New World. We’ve heard rumors of this world before, and it's where the Mamool Ja, a lizard-like race we first encountered in the White Mage storyline in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, originally came from. Other than this, we don’t know much, and all the better. We can’t wait to discover this mystery story!
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail locations
The Keynotes revealed a handful of locations that we’d get a chance to journey to:
- Tuliyolla - The capital of Tural, a jungle city filled with bazaars
- Urqopacha - Mountainous region in Yok Tural. Originally the seat of the Giant’s Empire!
- Yak T’el - A thick forest only accessible via airship flight! This is where the Hrothgar and Mamool Ja of Tural live.
FFXIV: Dawntrail Allied tribes
The Mamool Ja
The Mamool Ja are native to Tural and the New World, where we’ll be headed in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. However, there’s no solid proof we’ll be working with them. Still, The Mamool Ja has been a Final Fantasy staple since FFXI, and this expansion seems to be gathering a lot of details from that game. Blue Mages are also originally from this New World, and if you’re a Blue Mage player, you’ll have had plenty of encounters with eh Mamool Ja!
The Pelupelu
The Pelupelu are going to be familiar if you’ve played one of Final Fantasy’s most beloved entries, FFX. These strange masked traders are apparently going to be selling you Tea, Coffee, and… Mezcal? So it looks like our WoL is going to be enjoying drinking the good stuff in Tural! It’s likely these creatures will also be an Allied tribe.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail content
We also got a glimpse of several new pieces of content from Dawntrail, including dungeons, raids, and trials.
Dawntrail Dungeons
We got to see glimpses of two new dungeons, a snowy mountain (part of Urgopacha?), and a menacing jungle (some of Yak T’el?). The official site now features artwork from these dungeons.
Dawntrail Trials
We have one Trial 100% confirmed, and that’s Valigarmanda. Given we’re in The New World, its no surprise we’re facing a snake dragon that looks like Quetzalcoatl. But Valigarmanda is also a summon originally seen in Final Fantasy VI.
Dawntrail Raids (7.0 Ultimate Raid!)
We didn’t get any details on raids except they’re there. Yoshi P confirmed a new 24-man Alliance raid series, a new 8-man Savage raid series, more Variant Dungeons, and perhaps most importantly, a new Ultimate for 7.X.

Post-release content for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
New lifestyle content
New lifestyle content is always a great sign. Given that the Island Sanctuary was some of the most hyped and enjoyed content of Endwalker, anything Square Enix adds in Dawntrail is sure to go down well. This, combined with the new furnishing expansion limit, is going to make the “real post-game” of FFXIV just that much more enjoyable.
Blue Mage Update
Blue Mages come from Tural and the New World! So, we definitely expected some new content when the setting was announced. Still, heading to the home and origin point of the Blue Mages is sure to yield new spells, new stories, and maybe, just maybe… it’ll be a full job and not a limited one anymore.
Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures
We’re not currently at the end of the most recent batch of Hildibrand Adventures, and they’ve gotten absolutely insane. Seriously. If you’ve not been paying attention, they’ve gone from being over-the-top to absolutely out-of-this-world. The title is perfectly fitting because we have no idea how they’re going to top this.
New Deep Dungeon?
Finally! A new Deep Dungeon will be a welcome addition, given that we’ve had somewhat of a drought. While most of us might not have fully conquered Eureka Orthos yet, more Deep Dungeon content is very much welcome.
Golden Saucer Update
It’s our favorite time-sink, the Manderville Golden Saucer, a casino where the customer always wins and the house always loses! We’re guessing we’ll get some more GATEs, maybe some more machines, and hopefully some more of the crazier game modes like Chocobo Racing!
Miscellaneous details about FFXIV: Dawntrail
Eye Glasses - new gear slot
Eye Glasses have been Fashion Accessories for a while, but in Dawntrail, they’ll become a full gear-slot item. Having no stats, they’ll be completely cosmetic, although knowing the devs, they'll get creative with it. I'm thinking of night vision goggles for certain quests, snorkeling masks, and being able to add temporary filters to the game.
Two dyes per gear piece
This is the one that has World of Warcraft players really jealous. Two dyes per gear?! The glamour game just got stepped up by a whole new level. We’re just curious how far this will go. Will old pieces of gear suddenly get a new lease of life now we want to see what they look like with the two tones. It's a truly crazy addition.
What’s the level cap in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail?
In short: 100. We’re going to level 100 everyone! With Endwalker ending at 90, it was a natural expectation we’d hit 100, but it was confirmed by Yoshi P in the keynote speech. We can’t wait to see three figures next to our jobs. It feels like a really special moment for the game!
