All Eikon Abilities in FF16, ranked

We ranked all Eikon abilities in FFXVI according to their overall usefulness in combat and how well they synergize with others. For example, Rising Flames is the very first Ability that you unlock, and I found it to be very useful throughout the game, fitting well in the best possible Ability Build for Clive.

Best S-Tier Eikon Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

Rising Flames

This is the first ability you learn, but it remains viable until the end of the campaign. It works by swiping up groups of enemies, setting them up for an aerial combo.

Titanic Block

Titanic Block is a unique Eikonic ability in FFXVI specifically because, as its name implies, it offers you the capability to block enemy attacks. It is the only ability in the game to do so, making it perfect for difficult boss encounters where your HP can vaporize quickly.

Best A-Tier Eikon Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

Windup

This is one of the most damaging abilities in the game, allowing you to slam a titanic arm into your opponents. It is a charged ability, and it requires you to be careful with your timing, but once you master it, you will quickly learn to love it.

Pile Drive

Pile Drive offers great AoE damage as well as a useful stun effect, staggering the enemies caught in a shockwave. It's quick and fairly easy to use; the reason it's not in the S Tier is that it only fires one time, making it less than ideal for stagger multipliers.

Best B-Tier Eikon Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

Scarlet Cyclone

This ability deals good stagger damage in an area around Clive by summoning two Phoenix wings. It has a decent CC effect, but it's easily outclassed by superior abilities in both damage and stagger departments.

Wings of Light

This ability differs from many others in the manner in which it is used. Clive takes to the skies carried on wings, all the while building up his Megaflare attack, dodging the enemy attacks all the while. If you get hit by the enemy, the flare counter gets reset, making this ability not much more than a one-trick pony.

Best C-Tier Eikon Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

Arm of Darkness

This ability replaces your sword with Odin's blade, filling up the Zantetsuken bar each time you hit enemies. You can release Zantetsuken by holding down the Square button, dealing damage proportional to the gauge level. While it may look good on paper, the ability itself doesn't do too much damage, especially from a long-term DPS standpoint, since it takes a while for Odin's blade to charge the ability, and it does very little damage to enemies.

Heaven's Cloud

This ability synergizes well with the Arm of Darkness, as it can also be used to fill up the Zantetsuken bar. It's a lightning-fast ability that can even be used defensively in a way since Clive quickly snaps enemy to enemy while using it, but it does very little damage.

Best D-Tier Eikon Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

Satellite

This ability calls down two lightning orbs that hover over Clive that deal damage each time you use a magic attack. The main drawback is the long starting animation and the limiting factor of having to constantly use magical attacks.

Gungnir

Gungnir summons the famous spear of Odin, which Clive uses to charge the Zantetsuken gauge by landing successful hits on the enemies. The spear does fill up Zantetsuken quickly enough but deals very little damage by itself.
