Ember Knights requires players to choose which upgrades they want active. As the choices in each upgrade group are so similar, it can be difficult to choose. Due to the amount of time we have spent playing the game, we believe we have the best upgrade loadout.
Best upgrade loadout in Ember Knights
- Thick Skin
- Max HP is far better than any regeneration effect that Regeneration gives, and upgrading it gives players lots of extra HP to work with that gets replenished by food. Earned Vitality depends on bosses, which are rare, and the boost is incredibly small.
- Pocket Change
- You'll want the initial boost for your first shop rather than an ongoing boost like Easy Money offers. Dividend gives almost no Gold and stops at the first shop.
- Fury
- Earned Power is useless because there are very few Bosses and Minibosses. You'll need the increase in Damage more when you're low on health than when you're almost full of health which is offered by Confidence. Lease on Life also pairs well with this, as reviving will keep you at a high Damage output.
- Slayer
- Although Bosses and Minibosses are tough, you can beat them by memorizing their attack patterns, so that cheapens Boss Slayer. Elites are rare and take patience to kill, so we also don't recommend Elite Slayer we don't recommend it. That leaves Slayer, which is useful due to the many normal enemies in the game.
- Relic Dice
- This is alone in its upgrade group but just skip it entirely. It gives you the option of selecting different Relic Selectors, but that's not as useful as you might think. Just pick the Relic you like and go.
- Lease on Life
- Getting extra 25% health Revive Tokens is better than getting a full heal from Soul Shelter. You will need the extra chances. Furthermore, this combo works well with Fury because you'll heal at 25% health, which will give you extra damage.
- Expanded Relic Selector
- A second upgrade that is alone in its group that you should skip entirely. A third option is unnecessary. It is a waste of 600 embers that you could use to upgrade three skills.
You cannot transfer your upgrades to your buddies if you play Co-op. The number of times you can buy an upgrade remains limited, but your partners are only eligible to benefit from the upgrade if you buy it for them. It sounds more like a bug than a feature, so hopefully, that will be patched.
