Dying Light 2 is a graphically demanding open-world game, and you need the latest hardware to run it at its full potential. Although higher graphics quality makes the game look astonishingly beautiful, several players prefer FPS and performance over it.
This guide mentions the best possible way to boost FPS in Dying Light 2. Please note that the following steps may or may not work for you. Proceed with caution and revert to the original settings in case something goes wrong.
Lower the Graphics Settings
The foremost thing you can do to increase your framerate in the game is to reduce the graphics settings. All "Quality" settings should be turned down to their lowest option. Even if you have decent hardware, keep in mind that turning on Ray Tracing kills the FPS of the game.
If your game is completely unplayable, you should also reduce the in-game Resolution.
Close any Background Tasks
A lot of times, people like to multitask and open various applications on their PC while playing games. This becomes a huge problem when you have low memory (RAM) and a low-thread processor (CPU). Make sure to close these background apps and processes from the Task Manager.
This includes a web browser, wallpaper engine, heavy applications, and other irrelevant tasks. Do not close any important system processes as that may cause your PC to shut down.
Tweak the Windows Settings
Change the following settings from the Gaming menu within your PC Settings:
- Turn off Xbox Game Bar. It runs in the background and utilizes your CPU core and RAM space.
- Turn on Game Mode.
- Below the Game Mode tab, you'll find Graphics Settings. From there, you need to turn on Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling and then restart your system.
Tweak the NVIDIA / AMD Graphics Card Settings
Adjust the settings in your GPU control panel to churn the most performance out of your hardware. You can easily find several guides for the same. For NVIDIA, change the following settings:
- Within Adjust Image Settings with Preview, select Use the advanced 3D image settings.
- In the Manage 3D Settings tab, adjust the following within Global Settings:
- Set preferred graphics processor to High-performance NVIDIA Processor.
- Set power management mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
- Set texture filtering quality to High Performance.
Make sure to save these settings by clicking Apply before closing the control panel.
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
Although this may not necessarily work, you should probably give it a try. From the Dying Light 2 installation folder, right-click on the application file. Select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and check the Disable Fullscreen Optimizations option. Apply this setting and test out whether the FPS has improved or not.
