All Dragon Quest XI Marriage Options

RPGs can make us immersed in more ways than one, especially when it comes to romance. Some games are quite stale that you can have the odd fling, and it means nothing, Geralt we're looking at you! Other times, on your journey, you may start liking a party member more than others and wonder if there is marriage in the future.

All Dragon Quest XI Marriage Options

Marriage in Dragon Quest XI isn't available until the postgame, and it's more or less completely optional. It's an option that nobody expected to be in the game. In the postgame, you have to rebuild a certain place, and after that's completed, by finishing a trial allows you to pick a wish. And one of those wish options is to be with someone forever.

Though marriage is a very odd word to use in this game, you can only truly marry your childhood sweetheart Gemma according to the game's dialogue.

Do you take Gemma to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you love her as long as you both shall live?

You can choose to "marry" any other of your party members, and we mean any, but this is more "cohabitation" than marriage, especially with the male party members. The script is more flirty with the female members, and it seems more than "cohabitation." Of course, in their dialogue, they talk about companionship, and they'll always being there, but nothing on the lines of love, being a wife, or marriage as Gemma does.

• Sylvando

Basically, cohabitation is where you are living with that person for life, but you are not an item. When you return home, you'll find the person you married you both sleep in a separate bed; it's living with a best friend. As Rab is the main character's Grandad, marrying him is weird, but cohabitation is completely acceptable. Two people who love each other as family, living together, is perfectly fine.

The game leaves it wide open to interpretation on what you choose to believe, which is honestly the way it should be. It's cleverly written in a way it could be marriage, or it could be something less, or even something more. Interpret it how you wish is the key factor from any RPG. Let give you some examples:

• Veronica: "We've got the rest of our lives ahead of us, after all! The Amazing Veronica will be with you to the end!"

• Jade: "You know, I get the feeling there's nothing we can't overcome as long as we're together. Lucky we're going to be together for a while then, eh?"

• Rab: " I'll never leave ye all alone like that again, my boy. I promise ye."

• Sylvando: "And when I do, I know you'll be there, cheering me every step of the way. We make a great team, you and I! The Great Sylvando, and the even greater Luminary!!

If you want to, save on a new separate file, and after the trial, pick each person you can marry. Then watch it, and see who gives off the best scene or dialogue. Reload your save, and do it again. This might take a while, but it's the best scenario if you're unsure who to pick!

For those wondering when you can exactly get married, we can tell you.

In the postgame, you have to rebuild Cobblestone and turn it into a bustling village. It involves a lot of tricky battles and a lot of running around the world doing quests. Once the village has been fully restored, you need to complete The Disciple's Trial. After you beat the trial, you can make a wish, and you can choose the option to be with someone forever, and then you can select that person you choose.
