How to complete 'The Sundial' Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley

As you enter through the Ancient Door after opening it with Rapunzel, you'll start 'The Sundial' quest. This consists of repairing the broken Sundial so you can move the platform toward the floating island in the distance. To do so, you'll need to first catch the floating Sun Core.

How to catch the Floating Sun Core in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Floating Sun Core is flying around the Sundial, and it's pretty fast. It will fly in whatever direction it can to escape you. Thankfully, you can corner it by chasing it to one side of the island and spamming the Pick Up button. It helps if you have full energy so you can sprint and catch it much easier.

Once you have the Sun Core, you're going to want to place it in the sun lever by interacting with it, selecting the Sun Core from your inventory, and slotting it into the lever. This will make the platform start to turn a little, but you'll need a few more missing pieces.

Unfortunately, the rest of the pieces you need are scattered all around the isle. You'll need to track down 10 Floating Sundial Gears, some of which will try to escape you just like the Sun Core. Don't worry, you can catch them using the same techniques as the Floating Sun Core by sprinting or cornering them. The flying ones also follow the same paths repeatedly, so it's a bit easier to predict their movements. Here's where to find them all:

  • The Grasslands
    • Outside the Ancient Door
    • Down the hill from the waterfall (Flying)
    • Main Grasslands area
  • Ancient's Landing Bridge
    • Between the entrances to the biomes (Flying)
  • The Plains
    • Near the entrance to The Plains
    • Middle of The Plains flying toward the sinking sands (Flying)
  • The Courtyard
    • Between Courtyard entrance and Chez Remy (Flying)
  • The Docks
    • Near the well
    • Near the dock with the boat
    • Between the docks and EVE's island (Flying)

With all ten gears, you can return to Rapunzel at the Sundial island and fully repair Sundial. This will allow the platform to continue moving all the way over to the island with the Statue of Time. Here, you'll need to use your Hourglass to clear the floating gray rocks in front of the statue. When the rocks are cleared, a piece of paper will drop on the ground nearby for you to pick up.

This paper contains a hint on where you can find the next Gem, and you'll definitely recognize the villain suspected. Once you speak to Rapunzel about the note, you'll complete this quest and continue on to the next step of obtaining the gem.
