One of the many bugs that prevent several players from enjoying an otherwise solid Diablo 2 remastered is a bug that prevents players from using certain characters. This bug is widely known as this character is already in a game bug and shows up whenever a player tries to join a game.

To fix the this character is already in a game bug in Diablo 2 Resurrected, you will first need to create a new character. You can create a new character by exiting the main menu and left-clicking the button that says click new, as shown above.

This will take you to the character selection screen, choose any, and load in. Once you load into the game, exit, and then attempt to reload your old character. Doing so should allow you to load back into your game with your current character. It also was reported by a lot of players to be an easy workaround. 

However, if it doesn't work out, try restarting the game, then your system. The next and best option would be to copy and paste a backed-up save game or create a new character for the time being. Eventually, the developers will fix the error, as Blizzard has been aware of the problem since the 24th.
