Doing so should allow you to load back into your game with your current character. It also was reported by a lot of players to be an easy workaround.
However, if it doesn't work out, try restarting the game, then your system. The next and best option would be to copy and paste a backed-up save game or create a new character for the time being. Eventually, the developers will fix the error, as Blizzard has been aware of the problem since the 24th.
