After playing Diablo 2 Resurrected, some players have noticed their characters would sometimes disappear and get deleted from their games. Characters disappearing from games in Diablo 2 Resurrected is a bug and has been affecting players for quite some time after the initial release.
So far, there was no exact way to prevent the disappearing bug, but it seemed to be caused by having multiple characters with the same name. Because of this, we would recommend avoiding naming characters with the same name for the time being.

We also recommend backing up your saved games by making copies, so if something should happen to them, you will have readily available backups to recover any lost progress.
How to back up Diablo 2: Resurrected Saved Games?
To back up your save games for Diablo 2: Resurrected, you will need to locate the save game folder on your main hard drive. You can also find the save game folder at the following address listed below.
- C:\Users\pcname\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected
To back up your characters and saved games, you will need to copy the entirety of the Diablo 2 folder into another folder on your PC. Once the folder is copied, you can restore your characters and saved games from encountering the disappearing character bug.
Although it seems that the developers fixed the error in one of the recent patches, so hopefully, you will never have to resort to backing up your characters, but it never hurts to be too careful!
