Do you know the feeling of getting stuck in some game? Well, Diablo 4 made me stuck to the point I thought the game just crashed. But it was more than that, as the game had several surprises waiting for me while I tried to find a solution. After some time, I learned how to fix the Diablo 4 stuck on the character screen issue.
How to fix game crash at the character screen in Diablo IV
The best way to fix the Diablo 4 stuck on character screen issue is to relaunch the game if playing on consoles. There is no other more effective way to solve this issue, at least until Blizzard solves this issue with a Diablo IV patch.
On PC, it can be a little bit more complicated. The issue that I encountered was the initial input change on the character select screen. Although I'm an old-school mouse & keyboard Diablo player, I found playing Diablo 4 on PC with a controller very comfortable. So when switching to my Razer Xbox controller, the game froze. Music was still playing, but everything else was frozen!
Nothing was indicating the game crashed in Task Manager. The first few times, I had to Alt F4 or close Diablo 4 via Task Manager, but then when frozen, I moved and clicked with my mouse, and it came back to life. It seems on this character screen; Diablo IV gets very confused. My advice is to change input when you have loaded into the game, or unplug your controller, then replug it once in the game. Both options worked for me, as my wireless Xbox controller had never had similar issues before this!
