How to get the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2 (Magnum Opus Quest)

This Sidearm sure does look familiar!

Bungies 30th Anniversary celebration has finally begun in Destiny 2, and that means a new exotic quest that players can complete. Sticking with the theme of their past, Bungie has decided to make an Exotic Sidearm called Forerunner, inspired by the Magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved. Here is how to get the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2.

The great news about this Exotic Quest is that it is free to all players and not a part of the paid 30th Anniversary Pack. Players looking to get this Exotic Sidearm will want to do so quickly, as many of its requirements are completed in the Dares to Eternity 6-player event, and no one knows how long this event will last.

Start the Magnum Opus Quest

Step 1: Complete Dares of Eternity and Talk to Xur

The first time you open up Destiny, the game will automatically throw you into a Dares of Eternity activity. This activity is pretty easy and quite enjoyable, so go ahead and play through it until completion. Once you complete it, you will automatically be taken to Xur’s Treasure Hoard. Speak with Xur, and he will give you the Magnum Opus Exotic Quest.

Step 2: Get Strange Coins

You will need to collect seven Strange Coins and bring them back to Starhorse in Eternity. However, Strange Coins are pretty easy to get, and you should already have a few from your first run of Dares. You can farm them easily as they drop from Dares of Eternity and Heroic Public Events. Players will use these Strange Coins to purchase Bounties in the next step.

Step 3: Complete Starhorse Bounties

The next step will be to complete three bounties acquired from Eternal Equine Starhorse. These bounties cost Strange Coins, but you can only hold one Bounty at a time, so no need to farm the Coins beforehand. The daily Starhorse Bounties are pretty simple, just requiring you to use a specific weapon and get a certain score in Dares of Eternity, while the weekly Starhorse bounties will prove to be a little tougher but will count as more than one Bounty completed.

Step 4: Obtain the Strange Key

After completing the previous steps, you will be prompted to acquire the Strange Key from Xur. To do this, all you will need to do is reach Rank 4 with your Strange Level. This is pretty simple and can be done by completing runs of the Dares of Eternity activity. This should only take you around three more runs of Dares, depending on the score your team achieves.

Step 5: Use the Strange Key and find the Anomalous Object

Once you get the Strange Key from Xur, you will get an Objective marker directing you back towards the starting area of Dares of Eternity. Within this area, you will find the small rock formation shown in the image above, in which you can use the Strange Key to open a barrier. At this point, you can follow your objective marker into a cave. Progress through the platforming section of this cave, and you will reach a room with a cryo-pod. Open up this cryo pod, and you will receive the Anomalous Object.

Step 6: Take the Anomalous Object to the Gunsmith

Now all you have to do is take the Anomalous Object to the Gunsmith, Banshee-44, located back at the tower. He will turn the Anomalous Object into the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm. You will then be the proud new owner of the Sidearm that is not exactly but definitely is the Magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved.

So there you have it, that is how you can get the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2. This weapon also has a catalyst that players can unlock, and we are currently searching for how to get it, so remain on the lookout for that guide as it will be coming soon!
