With several expansions under its belt, Destiny 2 remains as popular as ever. Is Destiny 2 playable on Steam Deck?

Bungie has confirmed on its help page that Destiny 2 is not supported on the Steam Deck or any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running. If a player tries to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck either through SteamOS or Proton, they will not be able to play. Instead, they will be forced back to their game library shortly after attempting to boot the game up.

This makes me incredibly sad because, as both a seasoned Destiny 2 player and a Steam Deck fanatic, the ability to play Crucible or Raids on the go would be an absolute dream. Sadly, it appears as though that's all it ever will be.

Will I be banned for trying to play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck?

Bungie has also clarified that any attempt to bypass Destiny 2's incompatibility will be met with a game ban. This is due to the game being easily hackable on Linux, which is what the handheld runs off on, and the developer wanting to take zero chances of its meta being exploited by lack of anti-cheat. I understand their reasoning, but I wish they'd find a way to allow it to run on SteamOS, at least.

Is there another way to play Destiny 2 portable?

If you own Destiny 2 on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S, you can download either the PlayStation or Xbox app on your phone or tablet and use its Remote Play feature to stream the game. This isn't the ideal option, but if you want to play on the go, this is your only choice at the time of writing.
