All Boats in Sea of Thieves: Stats, Layouts, & Tips

Sea of Thieves started with just two ships: the Sloop and the Galleon. It didn't take long for Players to begin pouring in requests for another class of ship that accommodated mid-size crews of two or three. The Galleon was challenging to manage with a crew of three, and the Sloop couldn't handle more than two people. The game's developers heard the cries of their players and implemented the Brigantine into the game. However, now there are three different layouts to memorize!

Each different type of ship is different, but the variety provides options for several different play styles. In this guide, we're going to go over each ship's basic stats and layout, as well as some helpful tips. However, before we begin, we'd like to provide a list of nautical terminology. This terminology is faithful to the verbiage used while sailing and ultimately provides more precise direction than general instructive words like right, left, back, and front.

• Bow/Stern: The front third of the ship.
• Aft/Quarter: The rear/back third of the ship.
• Beam: The middle third of the ship (between the Bow and Aft).
• Amidships: The part of each level that is between Bow and Aft and between Port and Starboard.
• Helm: The captain's wheel that steers the rudder.
• Port: When facing forward from the Helm, this is the left side of the ship.
• Starboard: When facing forward from the Helm, this is the right side of the ship.
• Foresail: The sail closest to the bow.
• Mainsail: The primary and largest sail.
• Crow's Nest: The platform at the top of the mast.
• Upper/Top Level: Any level that sees the sky and does not have a ceiling.
• Middle-level: Any level between the bottom level and the upper level.
• Lower/Bottom Level: The level furthest down, generally below water-level.

With these terms, you should have a general understanding of the descriptions we provide for the objects' locations on the ship. Each ship will be listed below, along with their objects' respective locations.

The Sloop

The Sloop is a small ship for small crews of 1-2 Players. It is agile and capable of making sharp turns at a moment's notice, without much pause between sailing the different directions. Expert Players can control a Sloop to out-maneuver the larger ships and fire at them while staying out of range of their cannons!

Tips

• Sinking: Despite being much smaller than a Galleon, it's harder to sink a Sloop. Holes in the Aft will only allow small amounts of water inside. It isn't easy to sink a Sloop if you're sailing behind it. For this reason, Sloops should try to stay in front of other ships.
• Agility: It is easy to perform a 180-degree turn with hardly any downtime in a sloop. Drop the anchor when the sails are at full mast, and the Helm is turned all the way to the right or left. Since the anchor is easy to lift with one person, you can perform this maneuver in less than 15 seconds.

The Brigantine

Tips

• Three's Company: The Brigantine is extremely difficult to handle with only two players. It's strongly recommended to have a crew of three. 
• Have a Fixer: The Brigantine is considered a glass cannon. It's large and difficult to maneuver, which makes it an easy target for cannonballs. However, it's easy for two people to control it on the upper level while a third alternates between fixing holes and helping on the upper level. It's best to have one person make it their job to know when they need to patch a hole. There are only two levels, so the Brigantine is the easiest ship to sink if you're not paying attention.
• Agility: The Brigantine is slightly less agile than the Sloop, but far more agile than the Galleon. When going up against a Sloop, you'll do much better with a Brigantine than a Galleon.

Tips:

• Size: The Galleon is large, and so are its sails, so it should be one person's job to inform the captain of potential obstructions in front of them. This person should also be in charge of adjusting the sails.
• Agility: The Galleon is hard to control and takes a long time to turn. If the crew wants to do a 180-degree turn, they need to have at least three people prepared to raise the anchor. Otherwise, they won't get moving again for at least a full minute.
• Speed: Because of its three sails, the Galleon has the potential to outrun even the most agile Sloop. If the sails are facing against the wind, it will be the slowest ship. If all three sails are blowing with the wind, its speed is unmatched.
