The Fate of the Morningstar is the seventh installment in the Sea of Thieves main Tall Tale adventure. In this one, they provide us a breath of fresh air and keep the story mostly centered around a recon mission, requiring no fighting or puzzle solving. You must follow the footsteps (literally) of three marooned souls after their untimely demise. The Ferryman, who steers the Ferry of the Damned, has noticed the souls are missing.

Follow the link above to get the guide to locating these Hidden Journals.
If you've already started the quest and are looking to find the Enchanted Lantern, go ahead and skip to Step Two. If you are looking for how to start this adventure, continue reading Step one. You're in for quite a surprise!
Step One: Starting Fate of the Morningstar
As stated before, this Tall Tale's primary focus is to free the souls of three dead pirates from their prisons. This task is given to you by The Ferryman, who steers the Ferry of the Damned. So you're naturally wondering how to start this quest, given that the only way to talk to The Ferryman is by dying in-game.

In an odd turn of events, this game actually requires you to DIE to start this Tall Tale. This is indeed one of those rare circumstances in which we will suggest you kill your character off to complete the adventure.
You can have your character die in any form you wish, as that part doesn't matter. Once your soul is on the Ferry of the Damned, you will need to approach the Ferryman and look on the banister. As you can see in the image above, the Quest Book is located here. Interact with the book to start the Tall Tale. From there, The Ferryman will inform you of what the quest is about and require that you first obtain his Lantern.
Step Two: Finding the Enchanted Lantern
There are two possible islands on which you could find the Enchanted Lantern. To determine which one you're headed to, you can simply refer to the Quest Book. It will say where the Ferryman sacrificed his soul. It will also tell you on what specific area of the island to look for his resting place. Both island options are listed below, along with a description of how to find the Lantern there.
Marauder's Arch
The Quest Book mentions that the Ferryman died at the peak of the island, below a tree that appears to be dying. The Ferryman takes his poison here, and it is here that you'll dig up his sarcophagus. The image above shows exactly where you'll need to dig, but if you follow his instructions, you can likely find it yourself.
Kraken's Fall
Kraken's Fall follows the same pattern as Marauder's Arch. You will need to scale the island and reach the highest peak you can. The precise location of this peak is shown on the map. You can tell which is the correct peak because it will have a tree looming overhead. Dig at this spot like in the image above, and you will unveil the Ferryman's sarcophagus.
Step Three: Take the Enchanted Lantern to the Island
Now that you have unburied the sarcophagus, you can open it! Inside, you will, of course, find the Enchanted Lantern. Now that you have it, you will need to head to the island on which these souls are imprisoned. To determine the correct island, you'll have to refer to your Quest Book again.
On one of the pages, after the Ferryman describes his death, he mentions that he needs to see the fate of these souls marooned on a specific island. The island mentioned will be either Old Faithful Isle or Kraken's Fall. If you are headed to Old Faithful Isle, you can find the start of the investigation at the southern beach. Alternatively, if you head to Kraken's Fall, you will find the start of the investigation at the Northern Beach.
How the Enchanted Lantern Works
The Enchanted Lantern outlines fragments of the past and allows you to see the final few minutes of a pirate's life to trace the fate of their souls. When you take them to the correct island, you will begin this investigation into their souls' locations. You will primarily need to follow the footsteps and actions of the departed to uncover the truth.
When you follow them, you'll eventually come to see the point of the Keys and Chests that you need to find. Unfortunately, not much more can be said in this guide without spoiling it. However, the list below provides helpful tips for you to keep in mind while investigating the island.
- Pay attention to the hands. When you uncover the scenes, you'll frequently see the actors' hands and arms in specific formations. Sometimes they'll be pointing their finger, and sometimes they'll be pointing their guns. The direction in which they are pointing is usually the direction you need to go.
- Pay attention to the feet. You'll be following a lot of footsteps. Some of them will be human footsteps, and some of them will be skeleton footsteps. When the footsteps suddenly stop, it doesn't mean that is where you need to dig. Follow the direction that the last few footsteps in that line are going.
- The phrase go with the flow comes to mind. This Tall Tale is far more passive than the other ones. You mostly need to use your intuition to determine where you need to go next.
