With the new weekly and daily challenges in Modern Warfare 3, players are assigned tasks that can be as easy as scoring a certain number of kills or as difficult as getting collateral kills. One of the Week 2 challenges asks you to get three operator collateral kills with a recommended weapon for 10,000 XP.
Although this challenge is optional, if you're looking to complete it, you'll find the required steps below.
How can I get collateral kills in Modern Warfare 3?
You're given a collateral kill medal after taking out two or more enemies in one shot, preferably with a Sniper Rifle. For this achievement, at least two enemies need to be in your line of fire, as shown in the first image above. The same bullet that kills the first enemy should go through the next one, killing them, and you'll get a collateral kill medal (second image).
Therefore, this achievement is best earned using a Sniper or Marksman Rifle because these weapons have a one-shot kill potential. But let me tell you that you may have a hard time getting collateral kills and getting into the perfect situation, for it may happen once in a while. Also, I sometimes didn't get any collateral kill medal, even after killing two enemies with one bullet, which may be a bug.

Best weapon to get collateral kills in MW3
As mentioned previously, one-shot kill weapons like Sniper Rifles can earn you collateral kills. I prefer the KATT-AMR as it's a guaranteed kill if your bullet hits the enemy's upper torso, while the Longbow may not kill them in one hit. Here's a quickscope loadout for the KATT-AMR you can use:
- Barrel: Perdition 24" Short Barrel
- Laser: FSS OLE-V Laser
- Stock: Tactical Stock Pad
- Underbarrel: Cornerstone Bipod
- Bolt: Ephemeral Quickbolt
