In Diablo 4: Season of Blood, you're able to make use of ancient vampiric powers to gain a significant advantage over the forces of Hell. Pacts are the central resource required to make use of these powers, and each specific power has a Pact combination that must be met before it is activated.
Diablo 4 Season of Blood Pacts, Explained
As mentioned, there are numerous vampiric powers at your disposal in Season of Blood, and they all cost Pacts to make use of. While Pacts are a resource, they do not function like your standard Mana or Rage. Gear drops of Magic or higher you get in Season of Blood will come with their own set of Pacts.
There are three different types of Pacts:
- Cage - Shown as a red cage icon on gear
- Trophy - Shown as a yellow trophy icon on gear
- Skull - Shown as a white skull icon on gear
These Pacts don't do anything by themselves, but when combined, allow you to make use of this season's signature vampire powers. The powers themselves require a certain amount of each of the three Pacts to activate.
For example, the Call Familiar power requires three red cages and three yellow trophy Pacts. The total number and type of pacts that you have are entirely determined by how many pacts you have on all of your gear. Pacts themselves can also drop and be looted, which you can then use to put onto your existing gear.
Your total number of Pacts can be seen by opening up the Vampiric Powers tab in your Inventory. From here, you can also see which Vampiric Powers you have activated based on the Pacts you're in possession of. This means you'll need to pay attention to both standard stats and the number of Pacts on any piece of gear to make yourself as powerful as you possibly can be.
