What Does Focus do in Palia?

While exploring the mysterious world of Palia, you'll come across a cryptic term known as Focus. During my playthrough, I found this term in my character profile menu and right next to the food item details, and it made me curious about what focus means in Palia and how to increase it. How Does Focus Work in Palia?

In Palia, Focus is a unique mechanic that increases a player's skill XP gain. When you have a full focus bar, your additional XP gain is further increased, so you're more likely to earn extra XP while completing quests and activities like fishing.

The focus bar is located on the top left corner of the screen, under your profile name. Initially, characters have a maximum Focus of 200, which earns them a 20% bonus to XP. However, some simple methods can boost the focus meter, resulting in more XP bonuses.

How to Increase and Upgrade Focus in Palia

Eating food is one of the easiest and most effective ways to increase focus in Palia. Although raw food can also increase the focus meter, I recommend eating cooked and star-quality food items to maintain the meter at full capacity.

For instance, Hearty Vegetable Soup — which can be cooked by mixing 1x vegetable, 1x spices, and 1x morel mushroom — grants 150 focus points. Alternatively, you can increase the focus meter by completing various tasks, quests, and activities.

To upgrade focus in Palia, spend Renown at the two Shrines located in Maji's Hollow (on the northeast side of Kilima). One can also visit the Dragon Shrine after completing the “Dragon’s Shrine” quest to increase focus cap.
