One of the best features in tactical RPG Wartales is the large range of specializations you can choose for your companions. These allow you to create the exact squad you want to command in battle, whether you want to go ranged or melee heavy, or somewhere in between. Personally, I like to focus on tanks and rangers, so it was great to find a hidden fourth ranger specialization to try out. If you want to check out the Wartlaes Assassin specialization, read on for a full guide and map on how to get it below.
How to unlock Assassin specialization in Wartales
To unlock the Assassin specialization, you need to head into Vertruse Province. If you’re early in the game, this is the area north of starting region Tiltern County which you can access by going through the Gosenberg Border Crossing. Once there, you need to complete a quest to earn the Assassin specialization as its reward. If you’re playing in region-locked mode, note that Vertruse Province is full of level 4-6 mobs.
Wartales Assassin Specialization - exact location
You’ll need to head to Smot’s Arena (2 on the map above) and defeat the champion there, and then head to the Vertrusian Windmill (1). Speak to Rower at the windmill to complete the Gladitorial Legacy mission objective and learn the Assassin Specialization (you’ll need to have 200 Influence available to spend). You don’t have to go to the windmill first, as you can talk to and claim all in one visit if you’ve defeated the champion beforehand.
What do you get by being an Assassin in Wartales?
The Assassin specialization gives you a fourth option for your Ranger companions when they reach level three. This means that if you’ve already advanced past that point with your current Rangers, you’ll need to hire someone new or respec if you want to take advantage.
Choosing Assassin grants the companion a new action, Right Between the Eyes, which costs one Valour Point to execute in each combat round. It’s a ranged attack (6m) that inflicts 40 to 60 percent damage and applies Bleeding. If the target was already Bleeding, the damage is doubled. The skill can also be upgraded later, which increases Crit Damage inflicted by this attack (if applicable) by 30 percent.
