Announced several years ago, and after several teasers, Obsidian Entertainment has given us a glimpse of substance into Avowed, and it looks pretty dang impressive. The developer is known for making very high-quality RPGs over the years, with Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Pillars of Eternity of significant note, so for them to show off Avowed now is fantastic for the future. As someone who is a big fan of their work, I'm looking forward to it, but here's everything we know about the game we got from the Xbox 2023 Showcase.
What is the Release date for Avowed?
Microsoft and Obsidian graced us with a 2024 release date from the line of Phil Spencer himself. 2024 is shaping up to be a massive game year as much as 2023, and now we can add Avowed officially to that line-up. Good times are ahead, gamers. If we were to predict a release window, we think Q2 in the summer would be a good time since Q1 seems heavily stacked with great releases.
What platforms is Avowed releasing on?
As with most Microsoft and Xbox games, expect Avowed to be released solely on the PC and Xbox Series platforms. It is extremely rare that Microsoft releases any titles outside their own platforms, but if things are different this time around, well, I'll be shocked but will make sure to keep you informed.
What is Avowed's gameplay like?
Based on the gameplay shown, Avowed seems to be a first-person RPG akin to something like Skyrim. While typical fantasy tropes like magic and swordplay were shown off, we also caught a glimpse of a character with dual-wielding firearms. Considering Avowed is set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, this isn't that surprising, but it was still very much welcomed.
