Can’t attack or use skills in Diablo 4 – How to fix

Nothing gets my blood boiling like Hell in Diablo 4 than dying to trash mobs or getting killed by a tough boss. Most of the time, I blame it on my skills or lack of understanding of certain mechanics, but occasionally the game goes out of its way to put me down. This happened when I could not attack or use skills and stood idly by as my Necromancer was defeated. This left me wondering how to fix the inability to use skills or attack in Diablo 4.

The error causing players to be unable to attack or use skills can be extremely deadly for those on hardcore or playing solo and mildly annoying for those playing normally. • Restart Diablo 4
• Restart your PC, Xbox, or PlayStation
• Log out of Battle.net
• Uninstall and reinstall Diablo 4

I recommend restart Diablo 4 or heading back to the character select screen. Many players are reporting this has fixed the issue quickly. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. If you continue to encounter this issue, use the steps going down the list, but hopefully, you won't need to uninstall and reinstall Diablo 4.

What causes players not to use attacks or skills in Diablo IV?

There is no known cause for why this is happening, but most players are reporting it happens when entering a new zone or portal. This, unfortunately, has cost some players their hardcore characters, making it especially frustrating. Blizzard will likely iron out this issue with a patch, but until then, it may be best to hold off on hardcore in case you encounter this issue.
