An unfortunate side effect of live-service games that require an always-online internet connection is that sometimes, errors occur, whether it's on the player's end or server side. Diablo III is no exception to this, and if you want to check if the game is having issues or if it's just you, you'll need to see if it's down. Here's how to check Diablo 3's server status.
How to check Diablo 3 server status
If you're having problems connecting to Diablo 3 and can't get into Sanctuary, the first thing you'll want to do is check Diablo III's Downdetector page, which is an unofficial tool that players use to report outages. It is a good way of figuring out if the problem is on Blizzard's side or not and whether you need to perform any troubleshooting.
If the Diablo 3 servers are down, there's unfortunately nothing you can do except wait. Keep an eye on the official Blizzard Customer Service Twitter account for updates on when you can expect to be able to log back in.
Diablo 3 isn't down, so why am I getting connection errors?
If Diablo III isn't down and you're receiving errors when trying to connect to the game's online services, the problem is almost definitely on your end. This can be due to a multitude of reasons, though it's most likely to do with your internet connection.
Try out the following troubleshooting methods to hopefully resolve your Diablo 3 connection issues:
- Close and reopen Diablo 3—A simple solution that can be effective.
- Exit and relaunch the Blizzard Launcher—Sometimes, problems with the Blizzard Launcher can affect your connection. Exit and reopen it and see if that fixes the issue.
- Restart your PC—Another obvious one, but from time to time, all your PC needs is a refresh to get back up and running again.
- Restart your router—If none of the above work, it's time to restart your internet router. Unplug and plug it back in, wait for it to reboot, and try connecting again.
- Flush your DNS—Finally, if all else fails, try flushing your DNS. You can do this on Windows by:
- Press the Windows key and type cmd to open the Command Prompt.
- Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
If none of the solutions above work, visit Blizzard's Customer Support website and open a Support Ticket detailing all the steps you tried so they can help you to narrow down the issue faster.
