Where did it go?

Why do Hedge Mazes disappear in Hogwarts Legacy?

Hedge Mazes like the ones found in Upper and Lower Hogsfield can and will disappear if you do not interact with them when they first appear on your mini-map. This is not a bug. Because of this, we recommend that you try to stop and solve a Hedge Maze as soon as you see one, no matter what you are doing.

We do not know exactly what decides when Hedge Mazes spawn on the map, whether it's the current season, the amount of times a player visits the area a maze is supposed to spawn in, or whether it is simply randomly generated. We do know that there is an in-game explanation for the vanishing tasks, however.

If you interact with the books found at the beginning of Hedge Mazes, you can read about their history. They originated from a wizard by the name of Eunon Blackwood.

Eunon was born to a Muggle family that didn't understand him. He did his best to fit into their family trade: hedge trimming. After being admitted to Hogwarts, he met and married Artemisia Black, who was disowned from the Black family due to being a half-blooded witch. Their contempt for all things non-magical grew, and they spiraled into practicing darker magics.

Most of Eunon's family members only attended his wedding after learning of the Black family's large fortune. After the ceremony, Eunon invited his family members to venture into a Hedge Maze inspired by the Greek Labyrinth, lead to believe they could find treasure hidden inside. Those that were magical stayed behind, sensing something was amiss. Those that did go in never returned.

Eventually, Eunon and Artemisia had a daughter, Lysandra. She turned out to be a squib, a child born to magical parents that has no talent for magic. This caused friction in the family, and Lysandra eventually turned her mother in to witch hunters. Artemisia was burned at the stake. After her death, Eunon and Lysandra mysteriously disappeared, along with the Labyrinth he created. It has mysteriously reappeared over the years, though, for short periods of time.

Hedge Mazes contain large chests at the center that are the rarest you can find. They frequently contain Legendary Gear.
