Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG filled with spells and ancient magic secrets. You will encounter chests containing gear and Galleon rewards during your wizarding journey. The player only has a limited amount of gear slots to hold the gear you find, which can be irritating as they will constantly be filled as you find new chests in the world. Here is how to increase gear slots in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to get more Gear Slots in Hogwarts Legacy
At the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy, you are limited to 20 Gear Slots. This can be increased by completing Merlin Trials. Merlin Trials are puzzles found in the open world left behind by Merlin himself for the player to solve.
Once you have completed two Merlin Trials, open the Challenges tab on your Field Guide and navigate to Exploration. You can then claim the Merlin Trials reward for four additional gear slots. This can be repeated four more times, each increasing your gear slots, but Merlin Trials are required to claim the reward.

How to complete Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy
Merlin Trials can be viewed on the World Map in areas you have discovered, but are also identifiable by the stone circle covered in veins on the ground. You will need Mallowsweet Leaves to initiate the trial. Mallowsweet Leaves can be purchased in Hogsmeade if required; however, you will receive five during the Trials of Merlin story quest.
Each Merlin Trial is a short puzzle requiring you to use a spell to either move boulders to a pressure plate with Accio or light pillars with Incendio. After activating a trial, use Revelio to highlight nearby interactable objects to find the puzzle elements.
