Bayonetta 3 took almost five years between its initial announcement and release. Since then, some fans gave up hope while others made fun memes about the long period of radio silence. After the game's bombshell release, series director Hideki Kamiya has made it clear that this isn't the end of the beloved witch's story.
The news comes courtesy of Kamiya's Twitter feed, where he posted a firm promise of Bayonetta 4's eventual reveal and release. Translated from Japanese, Kamiya stated, "the ending of Bayo 3 wasn't conveyed correctly to everyone, so I think Bayo 4 will be an unexpected development for everyone. After all, when Bayo 4 comes out, I'm sure there will be people who say, 'You added that as an afterthought,' so I'll say it now..."

Kamiya isn't mincing words here, describing Bayo 4 as an eventuality rather than a possibility. The long wait for the previous title suggests that, despite Kamiya's confidence, fans will likely be waiting a while to hear anything more about the sequel.
