- Make a hole that's eight blocks deep.
- Place Soul Sand at the bottom of the hole.
- Fill the hole with water.
- Swim down and place a kelp plant in the Soul Sand.
- Place a trap door over the hole with a connected daylight sensor.
- Throw in an Ender Pearl.

When the door shuts due to the sun setting, it will activate the Ender Pearl and teleport you back to base. Keep track of time to see how close you are to being teleported home, so you don't end up with any items left behind.
