Niantic’s Peridot has fans asking about breeding in Pokémon GO

Will there be crossover features?

The developer behind Pokémon GO, Niantic, is creating its own spin on the monster-taming genre, with inspirations from Pokémon, Neopets, and Tamagotchi. One feature that has fans curious is the implementation of breeding in Peridot.

According to the official Peridot website, you will be able to "Breed your one-of-a-kind creatures and discover the infinite possibilities of Peridot archetypes." This has sparked debate in the Pokémon GO community on the TheSilphRoad subreddit about whether or not breeding will come to Pokémon GO.

Adding more fuel to this question is Peridot producer Ziah Fogel, who declined to say anything about breeding coming to Pokémon GO in an interview with Eurogamer. This lack of confirmation or denial certainly leaves this question up in the air.

Breeding is a popular and core feature of the Pokémon series, especially in the competitive scene. Perhaps Peridot's use of breeding is to test the waters for future breeding mechanics in Pokémon GO. Unfortunately, Niantic has not provided an answer to the question of whether or not breeding is on its way to the Pokémon AR title, but you can check their Twitter account for updates.
