Like many live service games, the meta within Dead by Daylight is always changing and evolving. Sometimes, it happens all too quickly. Other times, it feels as if the community is begging the developer for a change. The meta of Slugging, in this case, deals with hooks.
Slugging is when a Killer will leave a Survivor on the ground after knocking them down instead of hooking them. It came about before the Survivors' Sabotage perk was reworked. Essentially, a pack of aggressive Survivors could leave the Killer without any hooks aside from the basement hook. Rather than run the risk of dropping the Survivor along the way, Killers would leave Survivors to bleed out on the ground.
Since then, Sabotage has been adjusted and Slugging builds have fallen out of favor. That doesn't mean they are any less viable, though. The Nurse is particularly well-suited to Slugging with her ability to teleport around the map. The same is true of the Hillbilly and the Cannibal due to their native speed and perks, respectively. So long as a killer can move quickly around the map and keep their victims down, Slugging will be a strategy.
