Persona 4 Arena Ultimax launched for PC on March 17. But with the launch also came several bugs, which made playing the game difficult. One of these was the InitRenderer error which prevented the game from event launching. In some cases, the game will not launch at all, while other times, a message describing an InitRenderer error will pop up. But what causes this error, and how do you fix it?
The InitRenderer error is caused by running Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on a monitor with a greater resolution than 1080p. The first option to solve this issue is to launch the game on an alternative monitor with a 1080p resolution.

Once you’ve loaded into the game on the second monitor, enter the Options and then Display Options, and scroll down to Display Mode. Change it to either Full Windowed or Windowed Mode and then press Return at the bottom of the menu to save the settings. Then reload the game on your primary monitor, and you’ll have bypassed the issue.
Alternatively, there's still a solution if you don’t have a secondary monitor to do the above. You’ll have to edit or create your own config file for the game. To do this, open up Windows Start Menu and press R, then Enter to open the Run app. Type %appdata% into the Run app and then press Enter. This will take you to a folder with your Steam App data in.
Scroll down to a folder called P4U2 and open it. Click the Save folder and look for a file called p4u2configs. Open the file in Notepad and make the following changes.
[GraphicsOption]
iDisplayMode=0
iDisplayResolution=2
iDisplayResolutionWidth=1920
iDisplayResolutionHeight=1080
iRefreshRate=60
iTargetMonitor=0
iVSyncMode=0
sDefaultQualityPreset=High
Don’t worry if the p4u2configs file isn't there, you can create it. This happens if the game hasn't successfully launched before, as it creates the config file the first time the game launches. If this is the case, open a new Notepad file, copy the above, and save it to the Save folder in the P4U2 folder. This should solve your issue.
Currently, there are a lot of issues around running Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in full-screen. However, these are known issues, and hopefully, they will be resolved soon.
