Sea of Thieves promises the essential pirate experience and it is hard to argue with that. Players can sail the seas, drink rum, engage in swashbuckling battles, and even fire themselves out of a cannon.
A major part of Sea of Thieves and being a pirate, in general, is your ship. This becomes your home, your method of travel, and your way of survival. That being said, there are a couple of different options when it comes to ships in Sea of Thieves. You can either sail on a sloop, brigantine, or galleon. You can see their differences below.

Which ship is best will ultimately depend on the number of players as this will heavily affect how efficient your crew is on the seas. Bigger ships will require more players while smaller ships do not.
The sloop is most effective when playing alone or with a companion. Two crew members are the most that can sail the sloop which allows them to take advantage of the sloop's agility and small size. While it is not as strong as larger ships or as fast with full sails, it can outmaneuver them allowing good helmsmen to outsail larger ships.
The brigantine is a mix between sloop and galleon. It is not quite as nimble as the sloop but more so than the galleon but is also more durable than a sloop but not as durable as a galleon. It is best suited for two or three players. You won't outmaneuver a sloop or outlast a galleon in a head-to-head fight, but you can hold your own and with good planning take them down.
The galleon is the biggest ship in Sea of Thieves and should ideally be played with a crew of three to four. It has many sails and cannons that will require a lot of hands to use effectively. It has a slow and wide turn radius, but with full sails and wind at your back, it is the fastest ship in the game. The galleon is also the toughest ship and a skilled crew can keep it afloat for a long time while outgunning the sloop and brigantine.
