Smelting Ore is essential if you’re going to be a crafter of weapons and gear in New World. Turning ores into metals ready for forging is the key refining skill for fledgling weaponsmiths and armorsmiths.
But where do you find the smelters to refine all your precious ore? Well, luckily, it's quite simple. Smelters can be found in almost every settlement and town.
You can identify a Smelter Refining Station with a small white icon that looks like a smelter or kiln on the map.
Smelters, like all Refining Stations, can be leveled up multiple tiers. The higher the tier, the better the chance to create extra items and the more variety you can smelt. Some ores will need a Tier III or Tier IV Smelter before they can be processed.
Four things dictate the chance for increasing the number of items you smelt:
- The base chance to create extra items based on tier.
- Your smelting skill divided by 10.
- The material used.
- The difference between the material and the final product.
So, for example, if you were creating a low-level item with high-level ingredients, you’d have a greater chance to produce extra items at a high level.
Additionally, you may not be able to process higher-level ores at a Smelter until you’ve leveled up your refining skills to a high enough level. But other than that, smelt away!
